El Penedés is a territory with Designation of Origin located in the province of Tarragona. This area excels with the production of the best cava in the world, as well as with the production of excellent red, white and rosé wines.
Montmell is a natural park located in the lower Penedés, where the Montmell castle, whose ruins of its rectangular tower still remain, is set. Nearby we can find the remains of the old church of San Miguel, which consists of a single nave and a barrel vault. It was built in the 11th century.
The Can Marlés winery with DO and located in the heart of the Montmell natural park, stands out for its 100% organic wines. Three kinds of wines and one type of cava are extracted from its old vines. Visitors can also interact with the friendly alpacas from Peru, one of the great attractions there.
Once reached Can Marlés winery, we will start our walk along a path entering lush green forests teeming with beautiful oak trees. We will arrive at the Romanesque church of Sant Miquel, dated from the 11th century, a place worth visiting. From there we will be able to contemplate the magnificent views of the Montmell natural park and relax eating something to regain our strength.
On the way down we will visit the vineyards belonging to Can Marlés’ estate, where we will be shown their funny alpacas from Peru and the whole winery. Having completed the visit, there will be time to taste the excellent 100% organic wines, and we will be welcomed to a wonderful wine pairing. After this wine tasting, we will enjoy an excellent meal in a classic Catalan farmhouse where you will be able to taste the typical dishes of the area.
