Description
The Montserrat Massif
Considered the most important and significant mountain in Catalonia, it is characterised by the unique shapes of its rocks and its leafy surroundings. Thanks to the erosion caused by tectonic movements and the multitude of sediments that were deposited over the years, we find a landscape of unlikely and capricious natural sculptures. Did you know that 50 million years ago this place was occupied by a river delta?
The Monastery
Almost a thousand years old, the monastery of Montserrat has become a meeting point for thousands of pilgrims. Given the discovery of the black virgin, known as “La Moreneta”, this place has always been linked to spirituality.
Itinerary
At the beginning of this tour we will be able to observe the unusual shape of the Montserrat mountain range which was declared a natural park in 1987. The surrounding valleys are often filled with thick fog in the winter, so our arrival in the mountains may be a truly unique and mysterious experience.
After a brief introduction of our route, we will embark on a light walk around the mountain, while admiring the incredible views. On our journey we will pass by the “Creu de Sant Miquel”, a fantastic viewpoint with panoramic views, ideal for taking the best photos of the monastery. We will also visit the main hermitages of Montserrat with centuries of history, worth knowing. The walk ends at the sanctuary where you can visit the famous “Moreneta” and if possible attend the unforgettable Choirs of L’Escolania, famous all over the world for the high level of music they produce.
